Instructional Support

Students needing extra assistance at RBE are serviced in the areas of Reading and Writing by our Instructional Support team of teachers.  RBE is fortunate enough to have four IST team members.

IST uses two methods of instruction.  In some cases, IST services a variety of students within a single classroom (called the push in method).  Some students require a more intensive approach and are therefore serviced in a small group setting outside of the regular education classroom. 

It is our belief at RBE that all students benefit from support from time to time.  Our IST team works diligently to determine where the greatest need is within our building.  IST supports our above grade level students by providing project-based support, guided research practices and assistive writing techniques.  Our on grade level readers work with IST to develop expression in their reading and mechanics and voice in their writing.  Our below grade level readers work with IST to strengthen skills needed to improve independent reading skills.  IST also assist our teachers with the implementation of best practice in the areas of Reading and Writing. 

IST uses data cycles which include weekly progress monitoring and daily formative assessment collection.  IST intervention cycles run for 6-8 weeks depending on the quarter attendance days.  At the end of each cycle, we meet collaboratively with our data team and building intervention team to determine instructional direction for each of our students.
