English Language Arts:
ELA encompasses Reading, Writing, and Word Work. At RBE we utilize a balanced literacy approach to teaching communication arts. This approach means our teachers work diligently to plan for guided and independent instruction in reading, writing, and word work. Much of our curriculum overlaps allowing students to practice reading, writing, word work, and speaking/listening throughout most of their day. At RBE, we use a workshop approach to provide instruction. The workshop model allows us to differentiate instruction as needed to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students.

Math:
Our mathematic curriculum provides students with process-based, hands-on, concrete level, and beginning thinking experiences. Our teachers utilize a scope and sequence to scaffold lessons in the areas of operations/algebraic thinking, number/operations in base ten, measurement, data and geometry. At RBE we provide many opportunities for students to engage in critical thinking through mental math, model drawing, teacher direct instruction, hands-on activities and independent practice.
